Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn located in Massachusetts. The parents of her were Lithuanian Jewish immigrants Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. Her father, who was a carnival barker, died as a young girl, requiring her mother to help support the family by being a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was raised in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts where she attended high school. In the midst of only two years in school, Ruth left to pursue the acting career. The path was difficult to pursue. While she was offered an interview in New York posing as a woman for a magazine however, there were no theatre opportunities that was offered. After a brief stint as a club hat girl after which she decided to come back to her home in Massachusetts and leave the job she was working in. It was there that she earned a living in the ushering industry during the during the day and then at night was a part of the New England Repertory Company. It was her first acting job. In addition, she was a drama student and ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
